I took some time away from work earlier this month to go to a 2-day festival in south London called Mighty Hoopla. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this iconic festival, it’s an LGBTQ+ celebration focused around well-known and up-and-coming artists in the community. Hoopla see’s 30,000 likeminded people come together every year to sing, dance, flaunt their fashion and share and spread love.
There’s food, there’s cocktails, there’s a roller disco, there’s fun-fair rides, and OF COURSE, there’s glitter. Hoopla’s biggest gift, which I will quote directly from their website as I couldn’t put it into better words:
“With freedom and expression at our heart, Mighty Hoopla is the UK’s most fabulous extravaganza.”
Pop music isn’t my thing. I don’t wait for the line-up to be announced before buying a ticket. I don’t know half the people performing and I don’t care who I see over the weekend, yet this festival is something I look forward to every single year. Why?
The relationships.
Everyone at this festival has come together with aligned intentions.
We’re all there to express ourselves in a safe, non-judgmental and welcoming environment.
We’re all there to have fun alongside one another.
When a group of like-minded people come together in celebration and support of freedom, it’s magical.
I have yet to experience energy like it elsewhere.
The Mighty Hoopla Relationship System.
Everyone at the festival is part of a relationship system. The system has come together through shared values, beliefs, desires, andintentions. By collectively holding all these as one, the way the system feels and behaves is empowered. It demonstrates the impact possible when working towards the same goals, together synergy.
For 2 days people can freely run around a field basking in sunshine dressed exactly how they want (or undressed exactly how they want!), with no judgment and in a safe, motivating space. Everyone is laughing, dancing, singing, complementing, and having a fabulous time.
I look forward to this festival every single year for the relationship system I get to be a part of, the relationships between others I get to experience, and the relationships I experience with my friends whilst we’re there.
So, here’s to another year of Mighty Hoopla, celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community and to freedom to be whoever we want to be.
Until next year ❤️
